Christopher Koelsch

Christopher Koelsch was named President and CEO of Los Angeles Opera in 2012, having first joined the Company in 1997. He is responsible for all aspects of artistic planning, music administration, production, marketing, public relations and educational administration for the company, and works closely with Plácido Domingo and James Conlon on repertory selection, casting and creative team selection. In more than a decade with the company, he has produced over 30 new productions, including four world premieres. In addition, he has served as producer for seven television recordings of the Company’s work, including the two-time Grammy-winning Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. Trained as a dramaturg and stage director at Colgate University and University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he began his career at the Spoleto Festival USA, where he was rehearsal administrator. He moved on to become the company manager at Opera Pacific before joining LA Opera under the guidance of Founding General Director Peter Hemmings.
