Alan L. Smith Tanglewood commission now streaming online

The Tanglewood Music Center celebrated its 75th Anniversary this past summer by commissioning over 30 pieces by distinguished composers and alumni, including Alan L. Smith, chair of Keyboard Studies at USC Thornton and director of the Keyboard Collaborative Arts program. Smith’s composition, “I’m Memorizing You,” as well as a work by honorary USC alumnus John Williams, is now streaming on the Tanglewood website.

Smith premiered “I’m Memorizing You” at the Tanglewood Music Center on August 15, 2015, and also performed the work at an October USC Visions and Voices event with Vocal Arts faculty member Rod Gilfry and cellist and artist diploma candidate Jonathan Dormand (GCRT ’14). The work is based on an autobiographical poem that he composed.
