David Howard, Joseph Pereira featured in Los Angeles Times series “Inside the L.A. Phil”

USC Thornton faculty David Howard and Joseph Pereira were featured in the Los Angeles Times weeklong look at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Inside the L.A. Phil. Howard, bass clarinet in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was featured in a video discussing his instrument. “The most important thing about playing a wind instrument is the wind. It’s the quality of the air that I push through the instrument,” he said. Pereira, principal timpanist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, talked about his creative pursuit of sound, using materials from around the world for his percussion instruments. “I’m always looking to get as close as possible to what I think is the correct sound of what’s needed,” he said.
