The USC Thornton Community Engagement Programs celebrates the diversity and universality of the percussion family of musical instruments. The day-long event will offer clinics, demonstrations, and participatory drumming sessions in a variety of different styles and traditions.

SCHEDULE:

SESSION 1: Mindful Drum Circle*, led by Ossie Mair
Experience drumming in a way that relaxes the body, increases attention and focus, and offers a healing experience. Ossie Mair has developed a therapeutic system using group hand drumming and sound baths, incredible vibrational healing modalities, as additional approaches to help clients experience healing in a fun and empowering way. *Thank you to Remo for providing drums for this session.

SESSION 2: Samba Workshop, led by Aaron Serfaty
Hands-on learning opportunity playing the rhythms of the Samba. Aaron Serfaty has played with Arturo Sandoval, Sergio Mendes, Jon Anderson, Dori Caymmi, and Don Grusin among many others. He is currently on faculty at the University of Southern California (1997-present), at The California Institute of the Arts (2000-present), and at the Los Angeles Music Academy (1996-present).
