Jazz alumna Kait Dunton releases new album with trioKAIT

Jazz pianist and composer Kait Dunton (DMA ’13), an alumna of the USC Thornton Jazz Studies program, will release a new album with her ensemble, trioKAIT. The group includes fellow alumnus Jake Reed (MM ’10, DMA ’13, Jazz Studies) on drums, as well as electric bassist Cooper Appelt.

Dunton has previously released two albums of original jazz compositions, including Mountain Sweet (2012), which features performances by Jazz Studies faculty members Peter Erskine on drums, Bob Mintzer on tenor sax and Darek Oles on bass, along with alumnus John Daversa (DMA ’09, Jazz Studies) on trumpet.

trioKait‘s eponymous album, which explores and blends a variety of genres, including R&B and EDM, will be available for digital download July 31. Below is a preview video from the album’s recording session:
