Scott Shubeck was the first lutenist to be awarded a DMA in lute from the Eastman School of Music, studying with renowned lutenist Paul O’Dette. Specializing in plucked instruments of the 16th and 17th centuries, lute, chitarrone, and baroque guitar, he performs regularly throughout California and North America.

Shubeck is in demand as a continuo player skilled in opera, chamber music, solo repertory, history, and performance practice on lutes. He is also founder and co-director of Sarabande, a chamber ensemble performing music from the renaissance to the present.

As a life member of the Lute Society of America, he is dedicated to teaching and sharing the music of the lutes to a broad audience, and to implementing the study of lute performance and direction in music programs.
