USC Thornton presents nine nights of performances to celebrate the Fall 2020 semester, from Friday, Dec. 4 to Saturday, Dec. 12.
The Fall 2020 semester is drawing to a close. Students near and far are taking final exams, turning in final projects, and preparing for the holiday break after an unprecedented semester. We’re ready for a party – a safe, socially-distanced one from our homes – but a party nevertheless.
Beginning on Friday, Dec. 4, the USC Thornton School of Music presents nine nights of music – what we’re calling the Fall 2020 Festival. We’ll celebrate the resiliency and creativity this fall of USC Thornton students, alumni, faculty, and staff – but, really, we’ll celebrate the immense artistry and dedication of musicians across the school. From early music to our orchestral program, chamber music to opera, jazz, popular music and more – the Fall 2020 Festival will culminate with a holiday concert featuring our exceptional choirs.
Join us each night at 7:00 p.m. (PST) from Friday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 12 on our new virtual stage, Thornton/LIVE.
“This fall, Thornton students have pursued their art and education at the highest level in incredibly unpredictable circumstances,” said Robert Cutietta, Dean of the USC Thornton School of Music. “I’m so thrilled to see this festival come together. Friday, Dec. 4, 7:00 p.m. (PST) Highlights from Live! from Somewhere
A showcase of highlights from USC Thornton’s Live! from Somewhere series featuring students, alumni, and faculty performing from wherever they are.
Saturday, Dec. 5, 7:00 p.m. (PST) An Evening with the USC Thornton Symphony
The USC Thornton Symphony presents three movements from past performances of Beethoven, Dvořák, and Shostakovich in an evening hosted by conductor Carl St.Clair, artistic leader of the USC Thornton Orchestras, and resident conductor Sharon Lavery.
Sunday, Dec. 6, 7:00 p.m. (PST) The Vocal Arts & Opera program presents “Virtual Voices”
The Vocal Arts & Opera program presents an evening of new works created by student performer and composer collaborations, along with excerpts from unique dramatic works from the operatic and musical theater repertoire.
Monday, Dec. 7, 7:00 p.m. (PST) Jazz Night at USC Thornton
An evening featuring Thornton’s jazz ensembles, including the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra, USC Thornton Concert Orchestra, Honors Combo, ALAJE, and more.
Tuesday, Dec. 8, 7:00 p.m. (PST) An Evening with the Classical Guitar department
The Classical Guitar department presents an evening of student and alumni performances as well as a celebration of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet’s 40th anniversary.
Thursday, Dec. 10, 7:00 p.m. (PST) Chamber Music at USC Thornton
A celebration of chamber music from the Fall 2020 semester including performances from the Strings and Winds & Percussion programs.
Friday, Dec. 11, 7:00 p.m. (PST) Popular Music and Music Production Showcase
Students and recent alumni from the celebrated Popular Music and Music Production programs present original songs and artists in this virtual showcase.
Saturday, Dec. 12, 7:00 p.m. (PST) The Choral and Sacred Music program presents Sounds of the Season
The Choral and Sacred Music program presents its annual holiday concert ringing in the season with carols and songs featuring the USC Thornton Chamber Singers, USC Thornton Concert Choir, Apollo and Oriana Choruses, and the University Chorus.
