We’ve expanded this series to include our illustrious alumni and asked guitarist Shea Welsh to perform on our virtual stage.
Stages have gone dark, and we’ve expanded this series to include not only students but our illustrious alumni, live from… somewhere. This series will include a performance by guitarist Shea Welsh.
Our alumni have been particularly challenged of late with live performances canceled. Livelihoods have been compromised. But they are resourceful, shifting lessons and other engagements online and using the time to build personal websites, record albums, experiment with remote collaborations, and practice. Always practice.
Shea Welsh is a consummate professional. A performer, producer, educator, and advocate for the arts, he has built an amazing, multi-faceted career since earning a Master’s degree in Jazz/Studio Guitar. He’s toured the world performing his own music. He’s the director of The Shea Welsh Institute of Jazz for young musicians, and he’s led USC’s annual Summer Guitar Seminar for 18 years, training high school musicians who have themselves gone on to successful careers.
From his apartment in Venice, Shea performed a version of the jazz standard, “Alone Together,” written in 1932 for the Broadway musical “Flying Colors.”
It is a fitting and purposeful choice because isn’t that what we all are? Alone, but together?
