Los Angeles Times lauds music collective Irreversible Entanglements for genre-bending inventiveness

In the LA Times piece “This music collective refuses to make ‘safe’ free jazz—and the genre is better for it,” Steve Donofrio dives into Irreversible Entanglements’ groundbreaking sound, especially in their fifth studio album Future Present Past released March 27th on Impulse! Records.

Donofrio praises the album’s “timeless essence” and electric elements, seamlessly pulled together through forward-facing lyricism by Moor Mother, aka USC Thornton faculty member and frontwoman Camae Ayewa. The article further delves into Ayewa’s multigenre discography and the inception of the group sparked by an encounter at a Musicians Against Police Brutality event in New York.
