Kathleen Grace’s album “No Place to Fall” receives positive reviews

Arizona Daily Star featured No Place to Fall, the latest album by Kathleen Grace, USC Thornton alumna and current Jazz Studies faculty. The album was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Sheldon Gomberg. Though Grace has a jazz background, No Place to Fall features some songs with a more country and folk appeal inspired by her Tucson roots.

“Creating the songs felt like coming home a little bit,” she said. “There was a connection. I found myself writing about what really mattered to me.”

Amid the original tracks are covers from a range of artists that Grace admires. The release includes Duke Ellington’s “Mood Indigo” up against Tom Waits’ “The Briar and the Rose” and The Meat Puppets’ “Plateau.”

“Because I have these jazz roots, I can really adapt anything,” she said. “It is hard to believe, but I think it makes sense when you hear it.”
