Catherine Karoly

Catherine Karoly joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1996 as second flutist and was promoted to Associate Principal Flute in 2009 by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. She has performed as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and New World Symphony and has frequently appeared in chamber music concerts at the Marlboro, La Jolla Summerfest, Tanglewood and Aspen Music Festivals. Karoly is also a Performing Artist for Burkart Flutes and travels the world as a solo recitalist and masterclass instructor. Her solo CD “French Inspirations” debuted in 2012.

Following her graduation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Karoly was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study in England with Trevor Wye. Catherine Karoly continued her studies with Carol Wincenc at The Juilliard School where she received a Master of Music degree. Her other teachers include Mary Kay Fink, Robert Cole and Susan Morris DeJong. She is married to LA Phil cellist Jonathan Karoly; together they have three children.
