Crystal Barron

Adjunct Instructor

Crystal Barron is a somatic vocal coach, singing voice specialist and vocologist whose work bridges artistry, science, and somatic awareness to support sustainable and expressive vocal performance. She is dedicated to helping singers, songwriters and professional voice users cultivate authenticity, resilience and joy in their creative practice.

Holding certifications in multiple cross-disciplinary modalities, Barron’s comprehensive coaching model integrates bodywork, MDH Breathing Coordination, TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises), Laryngeal Massage and trauma-informed coaching frameworks, which allows her to offer a uniquely embodied approach to vocal development. Her work emphasizes the interconnection of mind, body, breath and voice—empowering artists to unlearn restrictive habits, build self-trust and develop the freedom to communicate with clarity and emotional depth.

In addition to teaching duties at USC, Barron maintains a thriving private practice, including an Online Singer’s Resource Center, a platform designed to promote vocal autonomy, empowerment and lifelong learning for professional and emerging artists. They regularly work with performers across genres, from pop and musical theatre to contemporary commercial styles, helping build sustainable technique and artistic confidence both in the studio and on stage. As a singing voice specialist, approximately 40% of her private clients come to the studio due to complicated and sometimes decades old vocal injuries.

Barron’s teaching philosophy centers on curiosity, compassion and creative exploration. The goal is to always cultivate an environment where students can align technical skill with authentic expression—developing not only their voices, but their artistry and sense of self as complete musicians.

In addition to teaching, Barron is an active member of the professional studio singer community, frequently called upon to lend voice to movie scores.
