ENSEMBLES
The USC Thornton Winds, led by Carl St.Clair, artistic leader of the USC Thornton orchestras, and resident conductor Sharon Lavery, consistently presents innovative programs featuring the best of wind compositions and arrangements. Distinguished past conductors of the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble include celebrated leader H. Robert Reynolds, Lucien Cailliet, William Schaefer and Robert Wojciak.
Artistic Leader and Principal Conductor of the USC Thornton Orchestras Carl St.Clair is a strong advocate of music education for all ages. He is internationally recognized for his distinguished career as conductor and as a pedagogue
Sharon Lavery serves as Resident Conductor of the Thornton Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, and Thornton Winds at the University of Southern California. Her extensive career has led to conducting in distinguished concert halls globally.
USC Thornton Winds is housed under the USC Thornton Winds & Percussion program. The curriculum offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as non-degree certificates.
Thornton Winds perform annually at USC. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from the early brass music of Gabrieli through the serenades of Mozart and Haydn to the most recent contemporary music written for wind ensembles.
