In Memoriam: Matt Miles
Matt Miles (MM ‘12, GCRT ‘14, Vocal Arts), alumnus of USC Thornton and Director of Major Gifts at Classical California, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026. He was 39.
Matt lived a life devoted to music and was deeply engaged in the music community throughout Los Angeles. For nearly ten years, Matt served USC and Classical California, dedicated to their shared mission of education through music appreciation. His many talents and creative pursuits outside of USC included performing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale; serving as co-founder (with his wife and Thornton alum, Alana Miles [GCRT ‘14, Clarinet Performance]) of the Los Angeles School of Music; and serving as choir director at multiple United Methodist churches in Southern California.
Matt’s passion for music and community was unbridled and self-evident in his acts of service, the relationships he nurtured, and the worlds of music he cultivated in Los Angeles and beyond.
Matt Miles is survived by his wife Alana Miles and their three children, Michael, Olivia, and Joshua.
