Jane Davidson quoted in L.A. Times
USC Thornton Music Industry program alumna and faculty member Jane Davidson (‘14) was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article profiling Ben Crumps, an attorney best known for his civil rights cases who has shifted to entertainment law.
Having represented the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in their wrongful-death lawsuits, Crumps is leading a new effort to audit record contracts and royalty statements on behalf of music artists. Jane Davidson, an entertainment attorney who has represented both high-profile and early-career musicians, gave her opinion on Crumps’ audit efforts.
“It makes sense to do this,” Davidson said. “It’s just a matter of whether the artist will realize any benefit. Unless a song blows up on TikTok or it’s used on a TV show, a song has a pretty fixed cycle of commercial value.”
