Juan Pablo Contreras’ “La Minerva” receives 2024 Latin Grammy nomination
Juan Pablo Contreras (DMA ’21), a USC Thornton Composition program faculty member and alumnus, received a Latin Grammy nomination in the Best Classical Contemporary Composition category for his violin concerto, La Minerva.
La Minerva was recently performed by Orquesta Latino Mexicana, an ensemble Contreras founded in 2019, and soloist Angélica Olivo. Watch the recording here.
This is Contreras’ third Latin Grammy nomination; the previous two were for Lucha Libre! (2023) in the Best Classical Contemporary Composition category and Mariachitlán (2019) in the Best Arrangement category.
The 25th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, which honors excellence in the Latin music industry, will be held on Nov. 14 in Miami, Florida.
