Tigran Hamasyan releases new album, “The Bird of a Thousand Voices”

Tigran Hamasyan, a jazz pianist and USC Thornton non-degreed alumnus, released his new album The Bird of a Thousand Voices on August 30. The work is inspired by an ancient Armenian folktale, “Hazaran Blbul – Հազարան Բլբուլ,” which is about the search for world harmony through self-discovery, sacrifice and rebirth.

“This story tells me that, if we wish to change the world, we all will need to change individually. This typically Armenian tale was lesser known for ages, but I feel it’s time to present this particular story, with its universal message of spiritual awakening, to the world,” Hamasyan said.

In June, The Bird of a Thousand Voices had its world premiere as a transmedia musical theater piece at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam. The performance included shadow play, digitally-programmed voices and live music.
