Alumni and faculty receive EMMY nominations for outstanding film scoring
USC Thornton alumni and faculty have been honored with EMMY Award nominations. Duncan Thum (BA ’06, Guitar, GCRT ’13, SMPTV) has been nominated for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) for the documentary series “Chef’s Table.” Several other alumni, including composers Tyler Sabbag (BS ’05, Jazz Studies) and Steve Gernes (GCRT ’13, SMPTV), orchestrators Pantawit Kiangsiri (GCRT ’13, SMPTV) and Sean Sumwalt (GCRT ’13, SMPTV), and recording engineer Dan Blanck (BS ’13, Music Industry), also contributed to the project.
Film composer and alumnus Bear McCreary (BM ’02, Composition) was nominated for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series Original Dramatic Score for the series “Outlander.” McCreary, who is well known for his scoring of “Battlestar Gallactica” and “The Walking Dead” has previously received two nominations and won an EMMY for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music for “Da Vinci’s Demons.”
SMPTV faculty and alumnus Bruce Broughton (BM ’67) was nominated for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for “Texas Rising.”
