Book by Keyboard Studies professor Stewart Gordon reviewed in Clavier Companion

“Planning Your Piano Success: A Blueprint for Aspiring Musicians” (Oxford University Press, 2014), a book by pianist and USC Thornton Keyboard Studies faculty member Stewart Gordon, was positively reviewed in the May/June 2015 issue of Clavier Companion.

Reviewer Carolyn True wrote that the book “is a terrific resource for budding musicians. It will inspire students to think intensely about making music, and it will encourage them to begin important and thoughtful conversations with their parents and teachers.” True also noted that “Gordon combines advice with practical exercises for pianistic improvement, and he addresses topics such as establishing a firm technical foundation, developing confidence in a solid memory, and presenting artistic and scholarly performances.”

Gordon is the author of several highly-regarded books on the subject of pianism, including “A History of Keyboard Literature: Music for the Piano and Its Forerunners” (Schirmer, 1996), “Etudes for Piano Teachers: Reflections on the Teacher’s Art” (Oxford University Press, 2001) and “Mastering the Art of Performance: A Primer for Musicians” (Oxford University Press, 2010).
