Portrait of Rod Gilfry

Rod Gilfry earns positive press

The San Fransisco Classical Voice praised USC Thornton Vocal Arts faculty member Rod Gilfry as one of the most successful and sought-after baritones in the Los Angeles area. The article applauds his various portrayals of opera heroes and villains. It also interviews Gilfry on his appearance in the West Coast premiere of David Lang’s the loser on February 23.

The Los Angeles Times was impressed by Gilfry’s performance in the loser, which they described as “without question…the most brilliant yet of L.A. Opera’s Off Grand series of new work.” The review says, “what assures Lang’s hypnotic opera of being an inescapable winner is a mesmerizingly virtuosic performance by Rod Gilfry destined for the annals of opera.”
