Describe your favorite USC Thornton experience so far.
My favorite USC Thornton experience has been playing in the Eastwood Scoring Stage at the Warner Bros. Studio. Being able to play in the recording studio for the film scores of my favorite movies was so surreal as I experienced how film scoring worked in real life from the click-track to the film scene projected in the back of the room, all while connecting with and learning from the many seasoned professional studio musicians seated right next to me.
What was your favorite USC GE class?
GSEM 120g: Reading “Black Love”! Professor Lanita Jacobs is amazing, and the class highlighted so many important, underrepresented voices and perspectives that I still carry with me to this day.
What is your favorite thing about being in Los Angeles?
The easy access to an incredible range of food, concerts, and new adventures is unparalleled here in Los Angeles!
What is something you wish you knew when you were applying to college?
Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help—talking to people whether it be students, faculty, or the admission office also lets you have a sense of what type of people you will be surrounded with at that school.
What is your favorite thing about being a student at the Thornton School?
My favorite thing about being a Thornton student is the community we have that is so supportive of one another and full of people from all walks of life. At a Summer Orientation before my freshman year, I was told, “Every person you meet at USC is interesting,” and that has definitely proven true during my time here!
Why did you choose the Thornton School?
I chose to attend Thornton because I knew I wanted to be at a university with strengths across all disciplines to grow in different facets and pursue a double major. Having access to many resources and opportunities within and outside the school, such as conducting research to performing at Walt Disney Concert Hall, was also an important factor in my decision. Thornton provided that support for my interdisciplinary interests, and the incredible faculty and people here truly made USC my ultimate choice!
