Chanda Dancy composed score for “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody”

USC Thornton Screen Scoring program alumna Chanda Dancy (GRCT ‘04) composed the score for the film Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, released on Dec. 23, 2022. The film is a biopic of legendary pop vocalist Whitney Houston.

In an interview, Dancy spoke about collaborating with the film’s director, Kasi Lemmons, and creating a nuanced score that reflects the pop singer’s life.

“With the score, there were two main things that we wanted to do,” Dancy said. “We wanted to rekindle for the film’s audience that glamour and the love her fans had for her, as well as respectfully address some of her darker moments.”

Dancy is an accomplished film and TV composer known for her work on Devotion, A Doll’s Eyes and Everything Before Us with Wong Fu Productions.
