Laura Karpman

An award-winning composer for both film and television, USC Thornton Screen Scoring faculty member Laura Karpman possesses a storied educational pedigree, matched only by her professional success. After undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan with renowned composers William Bolcom and Leslie Bassett, Karpman received her masters and doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School, under the tutelage of the peerless Milton Babbitt.

Professionally, Karpman has received five Emmy Awards and an additional nine nominations, was named one of the most important women in Hollywood by Variety magazine, founded the Alliance for Women Film Composers, and is serving as the first woman governor of the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
