Returning to USC in March 2020, the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival offers another unparalleled 10-day celebration featuring masters of the cello from around the world.

The Piatigorsky International Cello Festival will return to USC March 13–22 bringing together masters of the cello and young cellists from around the world in this remarkable celebration of the cello, its music and musicians.

Occurring every four years, the 2020 festival is the third iteration of this unparalleled, 10-day event that will see the world premiere of several new compositions from master cellists, as well as the release of a never before published novel written by Piatigorsky himself.

For attendees and artists, the festival’s significance reflects the legacy of its namesake. “Gregor Piatigorsky was one of the most important musical figures, never mind cellistic figures, of the 20th Century. He really paved the way for all of us who have followed him”, said Ralph Kirshbaum, the festival’s artistic director and chair of the Strings program at USC Thornton.

In the spirit of this legacy, the festival has continued to provide a platform for young cellists to learn and perform alongside world-renowned artists. “It’s so interesting to have all of these different artists in one place. You get this sense of diversity,” said Jeff Ho, who performed as one of 37 student fellows in 2016. “It’s something very special.”

Tickets to the 2020 PICF are on sale now on the festival website or by calling the USC Thornton Ticket Office at (213)-740-4672. Tickets can be purchased in various packages or for individual events.
