TJO wins Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival

For the second time in three years, the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra took first place in the 2013 Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival College Big Band Division and will perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival in September.
Students Erik Hughes, Andrew Boyle, and Andris Mattson won Outstanding Soloist awards. Led by music director Bob Mintzer, the TJO concentrates on the hard swinging style of the classic big bands. The flagship of the jazz studies program, the ensemble performs worldwide at jazz festivals as well as for marquee television and live performing arts events.
