Thornton Alumni receive ASCAP 2020 Screen Music Awards
Multiple alumni of USC Thornton received awards and nominations for the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) 2020 Screen Music Awards, honoring the accomplishments of composers for film, television and video games from 2019.
Bear McCreary (BM ’02) and Gordy Haab (GCRT ’02) received top honors in the Composers’ Choice categories. McCreary was named TV Composer of the Year, and Haab was awarded Video Game Score of the Year for his score for “Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.” Austin Wintory (BM ’07) was also nominated in the Video Game Score of the Year category, and Michael Abels (BM ’84) was nominated for Film Score of the Year for “Us.”
Varqa Buehrer (GCRT ’15), Michael Abels, and Bear McCreary each received a Top Box Office Films award for their work on some of the year’s top films. McCreary was also awarded a Top Television Series award for his work on the long-running show “The Walking Dead.”
