The celebrated professor of Classical Guitar offers an online message to students and performance from his home in Spain.
As part of his annual presentations for the Thornton Musician’s Wellness Initiative, Spanish guitar virtuoso Pepe Romero was to discuss “The Role of the Musician in Today’s World” on April 14. Since he is sheltering at home with his wife in Granada, he videotaped a message to the USC Thornton students, along with a moving performance of the Gavotte from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 6.
“On behalf of the Thornton Musician’s Wellness Committee, I’d like to share this video message from my beloved teacher and colleague Pepe Romero,” said USC Thornton professor William Kanengiser, Chair of the Wellness Committee. “It is especially poignant that he is bringing us this message now. With personal insight and deep compassion, Pepe explains the power of music to heal us individually and collectively. And he gives valuable encouragement to music students on how to keep the practice and love of music alive in these challenging times. We hope you find inspiration and solace in his message and beautiful playing.”
