- Plan to Complete the Undergraduate Theory and Aural Skills Diagnostic Exam
- New first-year students who certify to enroll (all majors except Music Industry) are required to complete a music theory and aural skills diagnostic exam to prepare for fall semester courses. This exam will be administered online and must be completed between June 24-28, 2024. Detailed instructions on completing the diagnostic exam will be provided to incoming first-year students by the Composition Department and the Director of Undergraduate Theory in early May.

Ways to Make the Most of Your Campus Visit
Class Visits
Observing a class while on campus is a great way to see the Thornton School in action! If you are interested in observing a class or rehearsal during a campus visit, you must carefully review and observe the following instructions:
- Students may visit classes from the “Approved Class Visit List for Admitted Undergraduate Thornton Students”.
- Be sure to carefully review and observe any details in the “Special Instructions” column.
- USC classes end April 26 and class visits will not be possible after this date.
- Prior to visiting the class, you must:
- Email the instructor of the class as far in advance as possible to confirm your visit. Be sure to include information about any guests that will be joining you.
- On the day of the class visit:
- Arrive to the classroom at least 5 minutes early and quickly introduce yourself to the instructor before the start of class.
- You should be prepared to stay for the full class duration whenever possible to help minimize distractions.
