Alumni garner nominations in 2024 Society of Composers & Lyricists Awards
Several USC Thornton alumni have been nominated in the fifth annual Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in music for visual media.
Ludwig Göransson (GCRT ’08) was nominated for Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film with Oppenheimer. Allyson Newman (GCRT ’05) received a nomination for Outstanding Original Song for a Comedy or Musical Visual Media Production with the song, “All About Me.” She was also nominated for The David Raskin Award for Emerging Talent with “Commitment to Life.”
Composition alum Carlos Rafael Rivera (MM ’04, DMA ’10) and Chanda Dancy (GCRT ‘04) were nominated in the Outstanding Original Title Sequence for a Television Production category for their work on Lessons in Chemistry and Lawmen: Bass Reeves, respectively. Rivera received a second nomination for Lawmen: Bass Reeves in the Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production category.
Composition alum Austin Wintory (‘07) was nominated in the Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media category with the video game, “Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.”
The SCL Awards ceremony will be held on February 13 at Skirball Cultural Center.
