L.A. Master Chorale celebrates Morten Lauridsen

This week, the Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC) celebrates the 20th anniversary of USC Distinguished Professor Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna with a series of concerts and events at Walt Disney Concert Hall (June 17-22).

Alumnus Grant Gershon (’85, piano), USC Thornton Board of Councilors member and artistic director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, was a young music student at USC when he first heard the music of Lauridsen. “I fell in love with his music and his vocabulary of harmony, and that approach to melodic lines that go to unusual places but are so completely singable and feel good in the voice,” Gershon said in an interview with LA Downtown News.

LAMC’s performances will include Lauridsen’s iconic piece, as well as a premiere by Thornton alumnus Billy Childs (BM ’79), in a special gala concert (June 18) and an audience sing-along performance (June 22).
