Composer Jaco Wong collaborates with animation artist

Composer and conductor Jaco Wong (MM ’16, Choral and Composition) was commissioned by animation artist Evan Tedlock to compose Psithaura, a ritualized experience inspiring reflection on our relationship to nature, for 16-part mixed chorus. The work was premiered in April, 2018, in an interactive installation exhibited at the USC Firehouse art gallery, then was later presented in a lecture organized by Byte of Science by the Hamed Mizaei Foundation. Psithaura is currently being exhibited at the V2 Lab for Unstable Media in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Wong previously collaborated with Tedlock on a work entitled Collective Reflections on Temporality, created for the HOCKET piano duo, which includes USC Thornton faculty member Sarah Gibson (MM ’10, DMA ’15) and Composition DMA candidate Thomas Kotcheff (MM ’12). He currently serves as music director of the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church and is one of the founding members of LORE Vocal Ensemble.
