Compositions students, alumni shine in ASCAP Foundation awards

USC Thornton Composition students and alumni comprised six of the nineteen recipients of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation 2017 Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, which were announced March 30. The winners include Composition doctoral candidate Julia Adolphe (MM ’12), graduate student Tommy Dougherty, and Composition alumni Saad Haddad (BM ’14), Patrick O’Malley (MM ’15), Jules Pegram (BM ’13), and Dale Trumbore (MM ’11). Doctoral candidate Juan Pablo Contreras received an Honorable Mention.

Presented annually by the charitable foundation associated with ASCAP, the Young Composer Awards recognize concert music composers up to 30 years of age whose works are selected through a juried competition. This year’s slate of winners was chosen from approximately 550 submissions.
