Elizabeth Rowe featured on Artful Narratives’ “Speaking Soundly” podcast

Elizabeth Rowe, principal flutist at the Boston Symphony Orchestra and USC Thornton alumna (BM ‘96), was featured on Artful Narratives’ “Speaking Soundly” podcast on Dec. 20. Rowe spoke about her experience as a performer, finding her personal sound and initiating a gender discrimination lawsuit against the orchestra while performing as principal flutist.

“I had and continued to have very strong, very healthy, mutually respectful relationships with my colleagues, and I think that is a huge component of how I was able to make it through that process in one piece,” Rowe said, “and why the orchestra as a whole wasn’t damaged, in terms of the camaraderie of the orchestra. We were and have remained in a healthy place as far as relationships among each other, within the musicians in the orchestra.”
