USC Thornton Strings Department alum Gabriel Martins (’19) has signed to independent artist management firm Opus 3 Artists. Martins is an acclaimed cellist who has been recognized for his artistry in many competitions including the 2020 Sphinx Competition, the David Popper International Cello Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.
Earlier this year, he gave his first complete Beethoven cycle performance in collaboration with pianist Audrey Vardanega and the Lakes Area Music Festival, performing and recording all of the works for cello and piano. He also made his New York City recital debut in January at the 92nd Street Y. The Strad Magazine reviewed his performance as “flawlessly played” and a “deeply moving experience.”
