Gabriel Martins wins 2020 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition
Cellist Gabriel Martins (BM ’19), an alum of USC Thornton’s Strings program, has earned another notable award, marking his third major prize in what has been a momentous year for the decorated artist.
Martins has been announced as one of two Grand Prize winners in the 2020 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. The prize earns Martins joint international representation by the Concert Artists Guild and Young Classical Artists Trust, impending performances at Merkin Concert Hall in New York and Wigmore Hall in London, and more professional opportunities.
Earlier this year, Martins earned awards in two other major competitions. In February, he won first prize in the Senior Division of the 2020 Sphinx Competition, a national competition for Black and Latino classical strings musicians. And in early March, Martins won first prize in the 2020 Schadt Cello Competition.
