Jenny Wong named Associate Artistic Director of Los Angeles Master Chorale

Jenny Wong (MM ‘13, DMA ’17), an alum of USC Thornton’s Choral & Sacred Music program, has been appointed to the newly created role of Associate Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC). Wong first joined the ensemble as Assistant Conductor in 2016, and was named Associate Conductor in 2017.

The Los Angeles Times featured Wong in a recent article about her new role, her journey to the podium, and the importance of her role as a woman of color in conducting and choral music. With this new position, she will work closely with Artistic Director and fellow alum Grant Gershon (BM ’85) to devote 50% of the Master Chorale’s future programming to feature work by underrepresented composers in classical music.

“The reason I get to be at a podium in Disney Hall is that there were people who came before me who worked hard, with great intention, to make that possible for me,” Wong said. “I have a responsibility to do the same.”
