Martin Chalifour leads drive-in classical music concerts
Martin Chalifour, concertmaster of the LA Phil and a faculty member in the Strings program, will lead two drive-in strings concerts presented by San Diego-based organization Mainly Mozart on July 11. Chalifour had the idea to host a drive-in classical music concert as an innovative way to allow audiences to safely enjoy live music, and for musicians to safely perform.
“It’s been really tough for those of us that are ensemble players,” Chalifour said in an article in the San Francisco Classical Voice. “But finally, after months of being frustrated we have these concerts to look forward to.”
70 cars will be admitted to two sold-out concerts, where eight strings musicians from the LA Phil and San Diego Symphony will perform on a large outdoor stage that can accommodate physical distancing.
