Live! From Somewhere: Geovanna Nichols-Julien

By Evan Calbi

Live concerts have been canceled, but the show must go on. We invited our alumni to perform on our virtual stage, and Geovanna Nichols-Julien sent a classic song.

Now that venues everywhere have gone dark, we’ve launched a series of performances by USC Thornton musicians, live from… somewhere, and we’ve expanded this series to include our alumni.

Geovanna Nichols-Julien graduated from the Vocal Arts program in 2019 and currently works in the USC Opera Office. While the Los Angeles native’s performances now take place in her apartment near campus, and her accompanists have become backing tracks, her lovely rendition of a favorite of classical singers, “La Vie en Rose,” still inspires.

Geovanna sent us her video with a note for her professor, Lisa Sylvester, chair of the Vocal Arts program: “Dr. Sylvester can be assured I’m keeping up with that French diction!”

Enjoy. Live from wherever we are.

Live! From Somewhere brings you homemade performances by Thornton students, faculty and alumni, live from… somewhere. Click here for more from the series, and to submit a video of your own.
