Thornton 2010 GRAMMY Nominations
USC Thornton faculty and alumni have been nominated for 2010 GRAMMY awards in an astounding nine categories. Special congratulations to jazz studies faculty Vince Mendoza who received a total of three nominations in two categories! Congratulations to the following Thornton faculty and alumni for their nominations:
- Thornton alumnus and current jazz studies faculty Vince Mendoza for Best Instrumental Arrangement (2 nominated selections) and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist
- Opera faculty Rod Gilfry for Best Opera Recording
- Alumnus Herb Alpert (BM ’54) for Best Pop Instrumental Performance
- Alumnus Michael Tilson Thomas (MM ’69) for Best Engineered Classical Album, Best Classical Album, and Best Choral Performance
- Alumna violist Cynthia Phelps (BM ’78) for Best Chamber Music Perforamnce
- Jazz studies alumnus Gerald Clayton (BA ’06) for Best Improvised Jazz Solo
