Thornton takes center stage in new USC NCAA spot

Last week, the University of Southern California debuted its new 2016 institutional TV spot to national audiences during the NCAA football game between the USC Trojans and the University of Alabama. The 30-second spot, which will air throughout the athletic season, highlights the arts USC and features a number of USC Thornton student musicians.

The jazz trio featured in the spot includes trumpeter Joshua Ginsburg, bassist Sezin Ahmet Turkmenoglu (GCRT ’14, jazz studies), and saxophonist Michael Blasky. Julian McClanahan-Calvert is seen playing his violin in the chemistry lab, while his classmate Haleigh Bowers rocks the USC Institute for Creative Technologies’ Light Stage. And doctoral candidate Sam Grodin closes the piece with his piano performance atop the Leavey Library reflecting pool.

Finally, to top off an extraordinary lineup of USC talent, the score for the ad was composed by Scoring for Motion Pictures & Television alumnus Grant Fonda (GCRT, ’13).
