Association of Popular Music Education spotlights USC Thornton in August newsletter

The Association for Popular Music Education (APME) featured USC Thornton in the Institutional Member Spotlight of their August 2023 newsletter. They explored the history of Thornton’s Popular Music program and key moments in its past, present and future.

In the spotlight, APME shared how alumnus Samuel Rodney Browne’s (‘29) “music of the day” classes at Jefferson High School led to the development of Thornton’s Bachelor of Music degree in Popular Music performance in 2009. They also highlighted the Fall 2023 launch of a new Master of Music degree in Popular Music Teaching & Learning at Thornton.

APME promotes and advances popular music at all education levels. USC Thornton is an APME Institutional Partner and co-host for their 2024 Conference.
