Vimbayi Kaziboni appointed Artistic Advisor of Boston Lyric Opera

USC Thornton alum Vimbayi Kaziboni (BM ‘10) has been appointed to the newly created position of Artistic Advisor for the Boston Lyric Opera (BLO). In the position, Kaziboni will take a curatorial and leadership role in BLO, telling the Boston Globe that his goal is “to tell new stories and unheard stories.”

One of the programs Kaziboni will help lead is BLO’s new mobile opera truck project, called BLO Street Stage, launching this year as the organization adapts to producing opera during the pandemic. The program will bring solo and small ensemble performances directly to Boston-area neighborhoods that may not have access to opera. “In doing this, we’re also forced to ask ‘what are we offering?’” Kaziboni said. “This is how we start reevaluating who we are, reevaluating our tradition, places where we need to question our practice and adapt.”

Kaziboni was also recently appointed director of orchestral activities at Boston Conservatory at Berklee where he serves as Assistant Professor of Orchestral Studies and Contemporary Music.
