Andrew Norman evokes Frank Gehry’s iconic Santa Monica home in a new work, “Frank’s House”

USC Thornton faculty Andrew Norman was profiled in the Los Angeles Times about “Frank’s House,” a new piece the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 5, in a sold-out concert. The new piece, for four musicians, tries to evoke the iconic Gehry home in Santa Monica that the architect bought in 1978 and converted from a nondescript house to “Gehry’s personal answer to Los Angeles’ chaotic culture,” Casey C.M. Mathewson wrote in Frank Gehry, Selected Works, 1969 to Today. Norman currently serves as composer-in-residence with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia. His The Companion Guide to Rome was named a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
