On Thursday, January 11th, USC Thornton Contemporary Music students enjoyed a special visit by musician and producer Wyclef Jean, who came to prominence with the Fugees in the early 90’s and now enjoys a successful solo career.

After speaking to faculty member Tim Kobza and students about his work, Jean invited two student soloists and a band to take the stage at Carson Center to show off their skills, even pulling out his phone to live-stream the performances on Instagram.

Later that day, Jean visited musicologist Sean Nye’s Hip-hop Music and Culture (MUSC 320) class to talk about making music in a changing industry.
