Yellowjackets

The Yellowjackets featured on Something Else

The music website Something Else recently featured an article on the founding of the Yellowjackets, an iconic jazz quartet that includes three USC Thornton faculty members – saxophonist Bob Mintzer, keyboardist Russell Ferrante, and drummer Will Kennedy. According to the piece, Ferrante met the other founding members, Jimmy Haslip and Ricky Lawson, while working in the rhythm section of Robben Ford for his 1979 album, The Inside Story. The group hit it off and quickly created a new band, the Yellowjackets, which released its first album in 1981. Since then, the band has gone on to release close to 30 albums and receive 17 GRAMMY nominations.
