USC Thornton faculty Beatriz Ilari and Veronika Krausas receive Advancing Scholarship awards

USC Thornton faculty members Veronika Krausas and Beatriz Illari were awarded by Advancing Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ASHSS). The ASHSS research and creative project grants program, an initiative of the USC Office of the Provost, promotes the development of innovative and influential scholarly and creative output in the arts, humanities and humanistic social sciences.

Veronika Krausas, a faculty member in the USC Thornton Composition program, was awarded an Advancing Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ASHSS) sabbatical for spring 2023. She’ll spend the time working on her next premiere with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a concerto grosso.

Beatriz Ilari, a faculty member in the Music Teaching & Learning program, was awarded an Advancing Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ASHSS) research and creative grant in support of “Musicking in The Margins,” a research project about the lived experiences of 30 talented musicians from underserved communities in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, whose musical journeys involved participation in community-based music programs and universities. The research project is led by Ilari and Graziela Bortz, and supported by the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE, UK), Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP, Brazil) to G. Bortz, and a generous ASHSS grant from USC.
